Armenia - Georgia: rich culture of ancient people

It’s a great talent to make a tourist feel honoured guest! Armenia and Georgia are given this gift.

Let us travel together and feel like honored guests in Yerevan and Tbilisi, in the city of love Sighnaghi and at Sevan, the blue pearl of  Armenia. You will also visit  the ancient monasteries Haghpat, Sanahin, Geghard and Odzun in Armenia; as well as Jvari, Mtskheta, Uplistsikhe in Georgia.

The program is arranged with arrival  in  Yerevan and departure from Tbilisi.

Day 1. Yerevan

Arrival at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan. Pick up and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation and rest in the hotel. After a short rest – you will have a walk in the central part of Yerevan. You'll see: Republic Square, Northern Avenue, the building of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Swan Lake. We will go through Saryan’s park where paintings of local artists are exhibited, to the architectural composition of Cascade designed by Tamanyan. After walking tour a welcome dinner in a national restaurant is waiting for you.

Day 2.  Garni Geghard << Noy>> Brandy and Wine factory

Breakfast in the hotel. The excursion day starts with a visit to the National Museum of History of Armenia Then we’ll go to the ancient holy places of Armenia - Garni and Gegard.

 The Garni Temple is the only preserved pagan monument in Armenia. After visiting Garni the tour will continue to Gegard. The full name of the monastery is Gegardavank which literally means "Monastery of the spear." The name of the monastery complex is derived from the Holy Lance that pierced the body of Jesus Christ on the Cross. The surrounding cliffs, the gorge with the monastery are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Return to Yerevan and visit << Noy >> Brandy and Wine factory. You will enjoy an excursion with wine tasting at the factory.

Return to the hotel.

Day 3. The Matenadaran  Echmiadzin – Zvartnots

After breakfast you will have an excursion to one of the best known museums in the world - the Matenadaran - the richest depository of ancient manuscripts and documents in the world. There are over 17,000 ancient manuscripts preserved, covering all areas of Armenian culture.

Next destination of our excursion is Echmiadzin where you will visit the Holy Cathedral and churches of St. Gayane, Hripsime and Shogakat which are included in UNESCO World Human Heritage list. On the way back you will see the ruins of Zvartnots Cathedral (UNESCO monument)

Return to Yerevan. Free evening for relaxing and having a good time at numerous pubs, cafes or clubs.

Day 4. Sevan - Dilijan (overnight)

You will get acquainted with  wonderful corners of Armenia - the blue pearl of Lake Sevan and – Dilijan

so–called Armenian Switzerland. In Sevan you will visit Sevanavank on the peninsula and admire the blue mirror of the lake from above. Arrival in Dilijan. The town is famous for traditional Armenian architecture and beautiful nature. You will have an excursion to Old Dilijan and Goshavank monastery, one of the largest cultural, educational and religious centers of medieval Armenia. Then you’ll go to Haghartsin Monastery (11-12v) located 18 km far from  Dilijan, in a wooded valley of Ijevan mountain range. The tour will end with a trip to Parz Lich (Clear Lake), one of the most beautiful places in Dilijan.

Return to Dilijan, transfer to a local hotel

Day 5. Dilijan – Odzun – Haghpat  Sanahin Bagratashen – Tbilisi

In the morning you will go to Tbilisi through Lori region where you will visit monastery Odzun (6c) and Sanahin and Haghpat monateric complexes which were considered one of the most famous spiritual and cultural centers of medieval Armenia. Haghpat and Sanahin are listed in World Human Heritage by UNESCO.

Proceeding to Armenian-Georgian border, Bagratashen. After the customs procedures you will be met by a guide and transferred to Tbilisi. Accommodation and rest in the hotel.

Day 6. Tbilisi Jvari Mtskheta Uplistsikhe.

After breakfast in the hotel we’ll have a visit to to the holy places of Georgia: Jvari Monastery. The masterpiece of Early Christian Orthodox architecture Jvari Monastery is dated 585-604 cc AD. Located on the hill top near the town Mtskheta, it is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site list. The name is translated as the Monastery of the Cross. According to traditional accounts, in the early 4th century Saint Nino stayed here to pray and erected a wooden cross on Mtskheta’s highest hill. The church was built on the crest of a cliff at a confluence of the rivers Mtkvari and Aragvi. The importance of Jvari complex increased over time and attracted many pilgrims. According to the legend pilgrims visiting the site shed tears while praying and the nearby natural lake was named the Lake of tears.

 

The next point of our excursion is the ancient capital of the Eastern Georgian Kingdom - Kartli (Iberia) – Mtskheta. This is one of the holy places for every Georgian. The city was founded in the 2-nd half of I millennium BC. Mtskheta is called "second Jerusalem" for unique Christian relics. We will visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (translated as "the Living Pillar"), in the basement of which is buried one of the main Christian shrines - Lord’s Heaton, and it was a burial place of many Georgian kings.

The next destination of our tour is Uplistsikhe, the first Georgian cave city. It is known that the city was formed in the year of 1000 BC, and finally was abandoned only in the XIX century. Before the adoption of Christianity Uplistsikhe was a sacred center of Kartli State (Iberia). The main temple of the sun was at the highest point of the city. Nowadays you can see caves, built in groups and connected with path transitions. in Uplistsikhe.

Return to Tbilisi. After a short break - walking evening tour through the Old Town. You will see Metekhi, Narikala fortress, Sulfur Baths, the Mosque, walk along Meydan Square and Chardin street, visit Sioni Temple, Anchiskhati Church and the Bridge of Peace.

Return to the hotel

 

Day 7. David Gareji Bodbe Sighnaghi Tbilisi

Breakfast. Departure from Tbilisi to David-Gareji Monastery. The monastery was founded in the VI century by Assyrian monk David (one of the 13 Assyrian Founders), by settling in a natural cave Gareji.

St. David is considered one of the most important saints of the Georgian Church. The complex consists of about 20 monasteries, carved into the rocks, and extends for 25 km along the slopes of Gareji semi-desert ridge. We will visit the main monastery complex - St. David's Chapel, where nowadays the monks live. Lunch (picnic). Next destination is a unique female monastery Bodbe. According to legend, St. Nino (Christian enlightener of Georgia) died there in 335. On  her grave King Mirian built a church and founded a convent in the VI century. Here, close to the gorge there is a  source of St. Nino’s healthy water. Now there is built a swimming pool and a small church. We will visit the tomb of St Nino.

After visiting Bodbe еру City of love Sighnaghi (2 kilometers from Bodbe) is waiting for you. It is a popular destination for couples and people who want to spend time in a beautiful and romantic place. Sighnaghi is called the "second Las Vegas" as it is possible to register the marriage all day long. Beautiful panoramic views open over the Alazani Valley from Sighnaghi. We walk through the streets of this lovely town. Dinner. Return to Tbilisi.

 

Day 8.  Tbilisi Airport.

 Depending on your flight check-out and transfer to the airport.
