Sri Lanka has been known by its current name since 1972, but prior to that, it was recognized globally as Ceylon. A tourist paradise, Sri Lanka attracts visitors from all over the world with its magnificent beaches, lush tropical greenery, and cities whose secrets are enshrouded by the jungle.

Sri Lanka is a center of Buddhism, offering tourists a wealth of historical, religious, and cultural monuments. Sightseeing tours are particularly popular in the Golden Triangle area, where many of Sri Lanka's attractions are concentrated. The country has a population of over twenty-one million people.

The island is entirely surrounded by the Indian Ocean and mostly flat, sitting about 100 meters above sea level. Sri Lanka's landscape includes mountains, with Pidurutalagala and Kirigalpotta being the highest.

Sri Lanka is a democratic republic with a President who acts as the executive branch and a parliament that holds legislative power.

The climate is tropical with high humidity. Average air temperatures throughout the year do not exceed 30°C, while the average water temperature is around 27°C. In the mountain resorts, temperatures are cooler, averaging 18°C during the day and 10°C at night.

The best times to visit are from October to May on the southwest coast and from April to November on the northeast coast.

Throughout its history, Portuguese, Tamils, Sinhalese, Dutch, and many other nationalities have influenced the island, leaving a mark on the architecture and resulting in numerous historical monuments.

Entry rules require tourists to declare any jewelry and expensive equipment. Importing more than $10,000 is prohibited. Tourists are allowed to bring one and a half liters of strong alcohol and several bottles of wine, although a tax is levied on imported cigarettes.

The main ethnic groups in Sri Lanka are the Sinhalese and Tamils, comprising 75% and 18% of the population, respectively. The country practices several religions, including Buddhism and Islam. The official languages are Sinhala, Tamil, and English.

The currency of Sri Lanka is the rupee, and exporting it is prohibited.

Tourists who purchase last-minute tours to Sri Lanka can indulge in a wide array of popular local dishes, as their savings on the tour allow for more spending flexibility.
