Dadivank Monastery

Dadivank Monastery, or Hutavank (“monastery on a hill”), is located about 100 kilometers from Stepanakert and 60 kilometers from Gandzasar.

It is known that the first basilica, existing to this day, was built on the grave of Dadi, a disciple of the Apostle Thaddeus, in the second half of the 1st century. On the south side we can see a rather ancient church. In the V century, the monastery became the residence of the Aghvan bishop and one of the most important cultural and educational centers of the region. From the 10th to the 15th centuries it was the spiritual center of the Khachen Principality

In 1241, gavit was added to the church, the front wall of which is an arcade. In the same XIII century, a vestibule was built near the western walls of the ancient basilica - the chapel of Surb Grigor (1224). For a long time it played the role of the tomb of the princes of Upper Khachen. There is a two-story bell tower opposite the gate, built in the middle of the XIII century. In the niche of its second floor there are two cross stones, which is considered to be second to none by many experts. In the southern part of the complex is the Church of Hassan the Great. This is one of the few architectural monuments in Artsakh, during the construction of which they used brick. There are many secular buildings in the South of the Hassan Church. Among them stands the refectory, built by Bishop Grigor in 1211. In 2004-2006 the monastery was restored and is now looking forward to your visit.
